Study processes for resource projects to improve project delivery performance

Why are so many mining projects still far exceeding capital costs, experiencing construction schedule overruns and failing to meet environmental and social obligations? The answer is not always straightforward and there are a multitude of reasons at play. This article proposes to look at two key factors that impact project delivery performance – not having an optimal strategy in the first place, followed by poor implementation of a sub-optimal strategy – and what is needed to address these issues – clearly defined study processes. This article will look at learnings from past mining projects and outline what clearly defined study processes could look like.
