Underground mining study guidelines

What does successful study execution look like? In the paper titled Planning for Underground Mining at Savage River Iron Ore Mine being presented at the AusIMM Underground Operators Conference in Brisbane on 27–29 March 2023, the authors Paul Harper, Nat Burgio and Uday Singh outline various strategies successfully employed – risk workshopping in a culture of open and frank discussion, appointing an experienced study team and a steering committee, implementing an independent peer review process, being clear in communication of the business case to stakeholders, undertaking sensitivity assessments and reliability assessments, including contingency planning, benchmarking against similar projects, and developing a comprehensive Forward Work Plan and Project Execution Plan.
